Four New Zealand ports have dominated awards for the top cruise ship destinations in Australia and New Zealand.
The inaugural Cruisers’ Choice Destination Awards named Tauranga, Auckland, Akaroa and Dunedin among its Top 5 cruise destinations for Australia and New Zealand.
The awards were based on feedback from passengers using the Cruise Critic website.

Feedback from passengers was full of praise for the range of tour activities available from Tauranga, including visits to Hobbiton and Rotorua to see thermal parks and Maori cultural activities.
Auckland provides visitors with an excellent gateway to New Zealand while the beautiful harbour and scenery of Akaroa saw its inclusion.
“(Akaroa) reminded us of a smaller version of the Norwegian Fjords – simply stunning.” – cruise passenger’s feedback.
Dunedin is also emerging as a popular cruise ship destination in New Zealand, as well as Napier, the art deco ‘capital’ of the country, which now receives more than 50 cruise ship visits a year.
