New Zealanders’ favourite home-grown movie is a 1994 melodrama about domestic violence, Once Were Warriors.
In a poll of 500 moviegoers, critics and people working in the New Zealand film industry, Fairfax Media revealed Kiwis’ all-time top 10 feature films.
Those surveyed named about 170 films, made between 1927 and 2013, covering all movie genres.
One surprise was the absence from the top 10 of Sir Peter Jackson’s biggest movies, with only one (Heavenly Creatures) featuring. However, 10 more Jackson movies featured in the list’s top 50.
All the titles in the top 10 were made between 1981 and 2010.
